Copenhagen, share your ideas with the world

Dr. Annapurna Vancheswaran, Director of the Sustainable Development Outreach Division at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is visiting Copenhagen on 6-9 November 2012. After having visited Copenhagen Municipality’s Mayor of Sustainability, this was her immediate response:

“Copenhagen’s plan to be climate neutral by 2025 is a fantastic idea. I hope that you succeed, as people, and I know that the people of Copenhagen are also a part of the whole thing. But there is something that comes into my mind. Copenhagen IS a carbon-intensive city, and there IS a need for you to bring down the carbon to become carbon neutral. In this programme, while you are working on it from now til 2025, I think it is necessary for you to also look at emulating your plans and programmes to other parts of the world which actually are NOT that carbon-intensive. And if those cities could become carbon-neutral along with you, then we have a success story across the globe. And I hope we can still do something with that. With your thoughts, with your ideas, and with the challenges across the world, we can make a better globe, together.”

Dr. Annapurna Vancheswaran has a Ph.D in Corporate Social Responsibility from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a Bachelor of Science from the Delhi University. She is Director, Sustainable Development Outreach Division (SDO) at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The focus of her work is mainly in the area of global sustainable development and includes interactions with international and Indian organisations, Government Departments, NGOs and the private sector with particular application to the diverse problems of India.
